Cluttons launches refurbished head office

Strategic property consultancy Cluttons has reopened their London head office in the West End after a period of refurbishment and reconfiguration. The extensive work to the building aimed to make the offices more flexible, sustainable and facilitate changed ways of working post pandemic.

Cluttons HQ, located in Portman House, London, is home to a multi-disciplined team of specialists dealing in all aspects of commercial and residential property.

Following an internal ‘stay or go’ review in which employees were asked their opinions, the decision was made to asset manage the property and reconfigure it to support Cluttons’ people and their new ways of working.

As a property advisor, Cluttons was well placed to ‘practice what they preach’ and carried out the refurbishment in line with what they advise their clients – making their office space flexible, inclusive, smart and reflective of how their employees want to use it.

The impact of the pandemic has undoubtedly affected the way we live and work, and during the various lockdowns, many were forced to adapt with more and more people working remotely and away from the office.

These new ways of working aren’t going anywhere and, while Cluttons had an extensive flexible working policy pre-pandemic, more people are now embracing the mix of office, travel and home-based work.

Cluttons has noted that the way that each of their employees works is different, with some individuals choosing to be primarily in the office, whereas others might choose to split their time with home working. Keeping this in mind, Cluttons redesigned their London space to accommodate a mix of working styles.

The company also embedded sustainability principles by reusing and recycling furniture and fit-out materials, and by configuring the space to support the practice of only using up resources that are really needed.

James Gray, managing partner at Cluttons said, “It is vital our offices reflect the ways in which our employees now work, and that different needs are catered for. As strategic property experts who advise our clients on these very matters, it is important that we are practicing what we preach and looking internally too. Fundamentally, people’s routines and practices have changed, and what they want and need from an office space differs. We want all of our buildings to be inclusive spaces and adaptable, bringing the values of the company to life and providing choice that facilitates how people want to work.”
