Sales growth and investment at Wrexham Wire

Wrexham Wire is the leading UK manufacturer and supplier of high quality steel wire, specialising in cold heading, bedding and seating, galvanized and general engineering products.

At the heart of Wrexham Wire’s forty-five year heritage is a commitment to provide its clients with the best possible product, service, quality and value. Last year Wrexham Wire kick-started a significant effort to reinvigorate closer relationships with its clients and focus on delivering against this promise.

The results are very encouraging, client confidence continues to improve and financials are on the rise as we move further into 2017. The most significant success, is the return to full-year contracts with Stanley Black and Decker – at almost 4,000 tonnes between their UK and German operations, this is Wrexham Wire’s most significant client  Another welcome return is Penn Engineering (Ireland) with 800 tonnes secured for 2017 and potential for further growth later in the year. Increases in volume share at Arconic (formerly Alcoa Fasteners), Barton Coldform and Relyon, amongst others, have strengthened domestic sales whilst the changes to the German Sales/Logistics structure implemented mid-2016 have delivered significant new business – typical of this is SWG who have recently confirmed 150 tonnes per month.

The positive outlook for Wrexham Wire advances further following the £750,000 investment in a new 12-hole wire-drawing line. This equipment was commissioned and installed replacing four older drawing lines and facilitated a significant cost reduction. The line which runs 1.00mm to 2.5mm diameter wire at speeds up to 25ms-1 operates 24-7 and at considerably lower cost than the previous equipment. Supplied with integral mechanical de-scaling, the new line has increased Wrexham Wire’s competitiveness in the high-carbon drawn wire sector and secured additional business both in the domestic and European markets.
