Rcapital engineers a bright future

Rcapital invests in Giffen Group, the railway infrastructure contractor.

Rcapital is pleased to announce its investment in specialist railway infrastructure contractor Giffen Group founded in 1909. The deal will see Rcapital take a majority shareholding of Giffen Group and its four specialist operating divisions: rail, underground, electrical & mechanical and switch-gear.

Giffen Group has carried out engineering works on behalf of clients such as London Underground and Network Rail for over 50 years. During that time, the business and its workforce of 150 staff based in St Albans, has built up an enviable reputation for safety and quality of workmanship delivered by highly skilled and technically rigorous teams.

Outgoing Chairman, Jonathan Giffen, who is retiring from the business, commented:

“After 105 years of family involvement in Giffen Group, this decision hasn’t been taken lightly. The combination of the investment and specialist skills Rcapital can bring, will strengthen the business and enable it to continue its role in supporting and maintaining the railway and the underground.”

Rcapital is a private investment business that provides turnaround funding to UK companies. Started 10 years ago by Jamie Constable and Peter Ward, Rcapital uses its own capital to rescue, invest and grow stressed and distressed businesses. Since its inception in 2004, Rcapital has revived over 40 businesses with significant financial and operational challenges.
