System Group’s first female tipper driver apprentice is a finalist in Talent in Logistics awards

“It’s not specifically designed for a man,” said Emily Luff, the only female candidate out of 14 successful apprentices on this year’s Cemex UK driver apprentice scheme and System Group’s first female tipper driver apprentice.

Emily has certainly held her own in her apprenticeship and has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Talent in Logistics apprentice of the year 2018 award. These awards celebrate professionals at all levels and reward people inspiring the next generation of logistics and transport talent.

Tackling the industry’s growing driver shortage crisis, System Group are leading the way in promoting trailblazers such as this, to train the skilled drivers that are needed to help encourage more women and a younger demographic into the industry.

Being the only female in the team doesn’t phase Emily, the 19-year-old from Lincolnshire has a strong will and a passion to work within the industry, which bodes well as the UK logistics industry faces a shortage circa 50,000 LGV drivers. It’s vital that the sector does more to encourage women into the industry.

Emily’s training group were the first set of apprentices to be signed up to the new LGV standards. They have just completed their Cemex graduation and are in the process of getting ready to be one of the first groups in the country to go through their EPA (End Point Assessment). This process will confirm full competence of the apprentices’ skills and knowledge.
